Meanwhile, preview the waxing and waning shows below. This large gingham pattern blouse is a early piece from Lily Pulitzer. It is so typical of its time with its loose fit to be used as a coverup as much as a blouse. It was bought in 1956 when Jon's mom was only seven years old. 1996 LAMENT by John J. Hensel Beautifully drawn, Hensel developed a difficult, thought provoking story of survival. What would you do to survive? And how would you process the moral questions presented by the situation? The character in this tale must consider those questions. Susan Hensel Gallery The focus of Susan Hensel Gallery is on compelling objects, meaningful use of materials, and engaging sculpture. Plan Ahead!

Plan Ahead! Plan Ahead! Opening April 18. Stories will be told! Jon Coffelt does far more than make tiny clothing. He tells stories. The title Communion encapsulates the collaborative process between Jon and the person commissioning the piece of clothing, melding clothing with memory. Communion also expresses the sense of the community that is generated by seeing all the pieces displayed at the same time. "Each piece represents a person. Many of those people have passed, and so the piece of clothing is a fragment. The pieces are just fragments of ourselves—people that we may have been at one time or will be at some point." About Susan Hensel Gallery – Contemporary Art by Susan Hensel. Opened September 10th, 2004, Susan Hensel Gallery was a gallery/ workspace presenting 5-6 shows per year devoted to the concept of narrative in the arts in an intimate space, with hardwood floors and high tin ceilings. The Susan Hensel Gallery is now both a window gallery on Cedar Avenue, the main thoroughfare in south Minneapolis and an online venture represented on Artsy.net. In March 2013, the interior space reverted to a working studio for Susan Hensel where she continues to work on [...]

Reader’s Art 9 opened with Reading

Reader's Art 9 opened with Reading The white gloves were donned and the intense readers arrived. I've had such a quiet opening. As in so little talking! They were reading deeply. There will surely be more pictures on Monday when Zach downloads his camera. Zach, my Monday salvation. Does a better job of photographing the openings than I. These were the only photos I remembered to shoot. I get so caught up with the clients that I forget about my camera. I'll be interested to see what he caught on "film." He had to run out and manage an opening as a favor for ArtSpace at Lake Nokomis Presbyterian Church. Just Looking in action

Just Looking in action I have not received all the photos yet. But you can begin to see the installation in action here. Friday was a delightfully cool night for an opening. A gentle crowd arrived and stayed and played with the interactive video. Mary, in the middle, learned that she could line her own eyes up with various pairs of glasses. Watch the website. I hope to have more visuals and have the audio compressed and on line sometime next week. Pictured with the EYES is the videographer, John Hensel, my son. Who came in and worked all week developing programs to film, duplicate and project attendees. The EYES project is one he showed at Oberlin College several years ago. Seemed perfect for the topic at hand. Susan Hensel Gallery The focus of Susan Hensel Gallery is on compelling objects, meaningful use of materials, and engaging sculpture. In the neighborhood

2023-06-08T01:50:06-04:00Articles, Artists, Art|

In the neighborhood (Dan Bisgaard, Kanti Jocelyn-Bisgaard, Peter Wilson, Sul and David) Do you know these people? They are making a difference. South Minneapolis continues to develop as an exciting place for art. Artists James Michael Lawrence ( who will have a show at the gallery in January) and Peter Wilson sent me these photos of murals just down the street from me at Laurra Auto Service, the corner of 18th and Cedar. I had the opportunity to meet the artists, Sul and David, the other day. What a delightful meeting! These two men are devoted to using the arts to improve the neighborhood. KUDOS! The murals are painted by Sul, the words evidently provided by David.
