In The Windows | Art by Kathryn D’Elia | December 2020-February 2021

This exhibition is a collection of work created through gathered observations. These include a person, a moment of speech, shapes of a curtain, bodily structures, snow-blanketed objects. They are exaggerated, warped, stacked, built, and also lit. This is to “remake” them into something new–to create something familiar, but on edge. Explore art by Kathryn D’Elia.

The viewer can make more discoveries between artworks.  Bridges of color and value marry mold structures, into lung tissue, into the curving forms of an elderly woman’s cheek–into a lrager and larger environment of association, one that reaches, leans, sucks, and grows, one that changes dramatically in theme and propensity once rearranged and reassociated.
Kathryn D’Elia was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL.  She attended a high school for the arts before attending Flagler College to earn her BFA in 2011 and the University of Washington for her MFA in 2014.  She moved to Minnesota in 2016 and currently resides in St. Paul.  She also enjoys her work teaching drawing and painting at Perpich Center for Arts Education in Golden Valley and adult painters at Artistry in Bloomington, MN.

About Susan Hensel Gallery – Contemporary Art by Susan Hensel

Opened September 10th, 2004 Susan Hensel Gallery was a gallery/ workspace presenting 5-6 shows per year devoted to the concept of narrative in the arts in an intimate space, with hardwood floors and high tin ceilings. The Susan Hensel Gallery is now both a window gallery and also a gallery on Cedar Avenue. This is the main thoroughfare in south Minneapolis and an online venture represented on Artsy.net. In March 2013, the interior space reverted to a working studio for Susan Hensel. This space allows her to continue to work on small and largescale artwork with an attitude. Additionally, you can find her current work at Susan Hensel Projects. The studio also remains open to the public by appointment or chance, on Monday-Saturday, 10 am-5 pm.  You are welcome to drop by this gallery/workspace at any time.
