Kendra Greene

Kendra Greene Reader's Art 12: Longing for Home  Texan, Kendra Greene, comes with a story."When my sister bought her first house, its sale came on the condition that she take everything in the house. There were still clothes in the closet, food on the counter, dentures in the bathroom. Everything just as it was when someone came to evacuate the 87-year-old owner from the life he’d been living alone. There were also messages. Throughout the house: a veritable ledger of oil changes scrawled on the garage door. The words “cold backward” were written on the wall above a faucet, and 93 pieces of paper were scattered on the shelves next to a black rotary phone. White Envolopes And Monologes These notes were written on the back of manila envelopes, grocery bags torn into pages, a receipt, white envelopes opened at their seams and pressed flat. They read like transcripts or monologues. They remark variously on the quality of Australian wine and the cost of Chinese dinners. But mostly they chronicle the writer’s failing faculties. His fears about aging, and intense loneliness. After four decades in one place, his home has become something to escape. In his notes, he longs [...]

Aileen Bassis Reader's Art 12: Longing for Home  Aileen Basis: "In 2006 I discovered that my mother was developing dementia. It was a devastating and overwhelming shock.  The person that I knew my entire life was dissolving before me.  As an artist, I make work about subjects that disturb and concern me and so I made art about mom and indirectly, me.  All of the texts are from my conversations with her.  Since I made this work, my father has passed away, and mom is now in assisted living.  I visit often and listen to her rambling words and mourn the loss of the person she used to be.  I no longer make art about her. Judith Strom: Reader's Art 12 Reader's Art 12: Longing for Home   Judith Strom- This book is an exploration of our acreage here in Montana. All the materials for the book except the thread for binding & stitching and the computer inks came from our property as did the images.  The paper is handmade from yucca. As with most of my work this piece grows out of my love of the natural world and most especially the beauty of our home here in Montana. An orderly procession

An orderly procession Project Gutenberg, the online archive of literature, ironically destroys printed books in order to salvage the information. Ironically, the process turns well ordered, collated text into a collection of dis-bound, chaotic materials that may or may not convey conventional information to us. With the project Gutenberg project Jeff Rathermel has collected this discarded material and compiled and re-ordered it into comprehensible collections of information. He has reconsidered the book in all its parts and has chosen attributes to highlight. Project Gutenberg project by Jeff Rathermel September 23- November 18, 2011 Opening Reception Friday, September 23, 7-10pm Susan Hensel Biography – Contemporary Art by Susan Hensel Learn about contemporary art by Susan Hensel. Wrestling Books into Shape

Wrestling Books into Shape Sometimes books need extra handling to present themselves properly. Zach and Jon wrestled with Doug Beube's work for the afternoon. These altered books arrive looking like ordinary closed books. The trick with the book LIFE is to slowly and carefully sort the pages into their ideal space, then tilt the book up, and let the pages cascade! Drilling holes again. Reader’s Art 10 and such

2023-06-08T02:02:02-04:00Articles, News, Art|

Reader's Art 10 and such Whew! The boxes are in the mail! So many books! So many boxes! The next show EARTH & AIR: art for the environment, by Leslie Sobel is hung. I have been building stretchers for a series of my pieces that are being hung in a show this weekend. The gallery looks like a BOMB! went off.   But, a wonderful surprise came in the mail today.   Book Arts Newsletter, No. 57, May 2010, an increasingly large publication out of the UK, arrived today with a review of Reader's Art 10. You can find it online at http://www.bookarts.uwe.ac.uk/newspdfs/57.pdf. The nice thing about reading it online is that it is in FULL color. Go take a look. Our article starts on page 34.  Here is a quick snapshot of the poetry reading...poets and listeners reading before all the poets arrived. Pentimento is ready and waiting!

Pentimento is ready and waiting! What Is Pentimento Pentimento. Pentimenti may show that a composition originally had an element. For example, a head or a hand, in a slightly different place, or that an element no longer in the final painting was originally planned. The changes may have been done in the under drawing of the painting, or by the visible layers of paint differing from the under drawing, or by the first painted treatment of the element having been over-painted.
