Peace Fibres- stitching a soulful world

Peace Fibres- stitching a soulful world Serendipity has been such a strong feature of my life. When one is able to cultivate to attitude of welcome, of "yes", one can see the connections and the offerings that the world has to give. Today was another opportunity of "yes." While working diligently on number crunching and financial projections ( yuck!), I received a phone call from a Minnesota author wishing to see the current exhibition. While Libbie Soffer was here, I attended Shepherd's Harvest and she went to the Textile Center and we both met Karen Lohn, the author of Peace Fibres. Karen and her friend Katie, a contributor to the book, spent time among Libbie's textile stories. A thoroughly delightful respite from numbers! INDIA IN AMERICA: STORIES OF NEW LIVES May 13-May 31, 2006 Celebrate the richness that Indian immigrants have brought to America. Listen to oral histories Watch traditional Indian dance Listen to classical Indian music See the artwork of contemporary artists: Lorna Rockey Siddiqua Shahnawaz and Shakun Maheshwari Smell the scents and taste the food. With pleasure, I will also be showing the online "flip-book" Visual Journal of India by Dorothy Simpson Krause. Ragamala Music and Dance Theater have sent a DVD of their work. They are a company in which "old forms are used in new ways to honor the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future." I am thrilled to have their assistance. This show was made possible with the input and assistance of the Minnesota Historical Society India Oral History Project and the India Association of Minnesota, and the Perpich Center for Arts Education Library. Many thanks are due to Polly Sonifer, Jim Fogerty, Dilip Mallik, Ram Gada, Godan Nambudiripad, Bhairavi X. Mahant, Ranee Ramaswamy, Sandhya Danapuri, Sandhya Gupta, Jeanne Iverson, and unnamed friends and neighbors who cooked, told people about the project and supported the idea.

WAR GAMES by Kari Gunter-Seymoor In the Christian calendar Advent is a season of watchful waiting. For military families in wartime, it is always Advent. January 7-February 26, 2005 A terribly important and terribly moving exhibit about this sort of advent showed at Susan Hensel Design at 3441 Cedar Ave. S, Mpls. Kari Gunter-Seymour, an artist, a single parent, a pacifist waits for her son's safe return from Iraq. It is an untenable waiting. To make the waiting possible, she has become very active and invites you to join her.

A Lesson about Shipping

A Lesson about Shipping A Lesson about Shipping. I shipped two of my small works to a show in Michigan last week. They fit in one modest box. The cost of it horrified me! Wow, I had been out of the shipping loop for a while. I thought about changing the shipping policy of Susan Hensel Gallery...But then my post office began behaving (again) as though delivery of boxes were optional. I have been asked, more than once, "Why on earth do some galleries (like me) require artists to ship UPS or Fed Ex when the post office is so much cheaper?" Well, here goes: •Delivery to the gallery is more reliable; My post office sometimes behaves as though delivery of boxes is optional. In fact, that happened over the past weekend. In the past, they have occasionally made no attempt to deliver boxes AND left no notice of the boxes being held at the post office. •You cannot get return pre-paid postage labels from the post office. Stamps you can buy and enclose. •The post office does not generally pick up boxes, nor is their parking set up for me to bring in up to 50 boxes for a [...]

In The Windows: Lynda Angelis

Artist Lynda Angelis describes her work – “In abstract painting, the subject is rarely important to the viewer: it is the painting itself – its colors, shapes, and textures- that arrest the eye. To say that a painting is strong is a compliment. Its strength may come from the combination of its colors or subject matter or something subtle that not all viewers will feel.” […]
