Art across town Meanwhile, while the dust was settling from the opening of Reader's Art. I continued to be involved with the inaugural exhibition sponsored by SMARTS (South Minneapolis Arts Business Association). The Arts of the Community opened last night at Inter media Arts, in S. Lyndale in Minneapolis.Forty artists provided 70 pieces of art in this surprisingly competitive show. We looked at over 250 pieces of art on jury day. Wonderful art, all different kinds of art, big art, little art, challenging art. This week, while I was recovering from the Reader's Art opening, David Luke hung the show. He did a marvelous job. The opening was well attended. these shots were taken toward the waning end of the night. A great time was had by all. Reader's Art 10 and such Whew! The boxes are in the mail! So many books! So many boxes! The next show EARTH & AIR: art for the environment, by Leslie Sobel is hung. I have been building stretchers for a series of my pieces that are being hung in a show this weekend. The gallery looks like a BOMB! went off.   But, a wonderful surprise came in the mail today.   Book Arts Newsletter, No. 57, May 2010, an increasingly large publication out of the UK, arrived today with a review of Reader's Art 10. Books that Fly Some books cannot be contained! Wayne Mc Neil's UNBOUND is one of them. The pages of the altered book became cranes and flew across the gallery. Jody Reeb-Meyers book unaccountably chose to float. Maybe the holes in it made it lighter than air. Holey Book of Arts. MEETING Wed 5/27 6:00 p.m. A BRAINSTORMING MEETING CREATING NEW FORMS OF PUBLIC ART TO COMBAT NOXIOUS GRAFFITI Corcoran Neighborhood has received seed money and is seeking artists and other creatives to help brainstorm and develop a startlingly new ( to Minneapolis) graffiti prevention program that uses public artforms. (Please note that around here we use the term 'graffiti' to refer to gang tags. Which are a serious problem in our neighborhood and are starkly different than public art, including aerosol art, including the great work that goes on at Intermedia Arts etc.) IN SERVICE OF COMMUNITY. CNO organizer Eric Gustafson traveled to Oaxaca city, Mexico in April 2008. Oaxaca has problems with graffiti and tagging that are similar, or arguably worse, than Minneapolis'. Soldier PJ’s

Soldier PJ's Soldier PJ's. These were Jon's pajamas when he was 6 years old. Before the time of Disney and Warner Brothers cartoon characters, boys were limited cowboys, toy soldiers and the occasional deer. Jon loved his soldier pjs dearly. Speaking of deer, his family went on a camping trip and had to take their pjs with them. It rained the whole way there and since they were pulling a boat behind the car everything in the boat became very wet. Once they set up the tent his mom thought is would be a good idea to try to dry out their clothes on the grill. For whatever reason, she chose to dry out Jon's flannel red housecoat with the deer heads first. Almost immediately they caught on fire. Luckily his soldier pajamas weren’t harmed at the time. Incidentally, after this horror and Jon's crying for a solid hour, his family decided to call it quits in the middle of the night and head home. They were tired, sad, broken hearted and very damp.
