A Long post about Vacations and Bathrooms

A Long post about Vacations and Bathrooms I just returned from 2 glorious, restorative weeks on the shores of Lake Superior.  A beautiful surprise  appeared shortly before I packed up to come back to Minneapolis, were 2 beach artworks by Dale Kennedy. I arrived to a torn -up house.  The Gallery looks like a hazmat site!  Do you remember the scene in the movie ET when they wrapped the house and entered in hazmat suits to try to capture ET?  That's what the gallery/studio looks like! "Why?" you may ask. Well, the renovation continues.  I am installing a full bathroom on the first floor. It takes away some of  the exhibition space, but will be worth it in the end. Meanwhile, elsewhere in the house, more bathroom action. As you probably know, I live above the gallery. The bathroom upstairs was falling apart...in fact it is a wonder the toilet did not fall through the floor. But when I got home a few days ago, everything was stripped out of that bathroom and the fixtures were back ordered! My personal bathroom as it looks today. So, in the middle of the night, and all day too, I have [...]

COMMUNION preview

COMMUNION preview COMMUNION preview. Juliet Blacksher, a dear friend of Jon's found out he collected antique fabrics. When she saw this 1930's silkscreen print, she bought all she could and had him make this miniature from some of it. The print is almost cubist with a 50's flair. Jon thinks artists take cues from fabrics more often than we want to imagine. 1998 Susan Hensel Gallery The focus of Susan Hensel Gallery is on compelling objects, meaningful use of materials, and engaging sculpture. IN THE WINDOWS- ART QUILTS IN THE WINDOWS- ART QUILTS IN THE WINDOWS- ART QUILTS. I have known Gwen for over 40 years. She and I were roommates late in our college years. Getting a degree in Interior Design while I got mine in Fine Arts. Going on to a varied career including institutional interior design and, ultimately, library science. In the last few years she has returned to her first love: color.  Using the skills of quilt making, she investigates how color and form influence each other. 2018-2019 Art Quilts By Gwen Schagrin These works were inspired by a variety of situations: a guild challenge, workshops with art quilting gurus, techniques in books that I wanted to try, improvisational reworking of patterns combined with a new approach to three dimensions, and scrap piecing. As always, I am motivated to create and explore by improvisation ally manipulating color, form, composition, and balance. The teaching and works of Rayna Gillman, Pam Beal, Jean Wells, and Cindy Grisdela have inspired and guided me. Graffiti prevention stencil

2023-06-08T01:32:30-04:00Articles, News, Art|

Graffiti prevention stencil Graffiti prevention stencil. While musicians played at Cupa Joe's, Zach, Eric & I began the demonstration stencil process. We taped the stencil edges up with duct tape. Zach rolled little loops of tape and placed them behind the floppier edges. Surprisingly, the wind made the styrene flap around a bit. We masked the area around the stencil with paper. Nothing fancy, newspaper would work. Zach and I sprayed several colors through the stencil. It was important to hold the sprayer away about 8 inches or so, to reduce over spray on the really rough stucco. When the stencil was removed, the design was pretty clear. I did not expect sharp edges. We flipped the stencil over and did another round of colors. The bottom of the stencil was too hard an edge for my taste. So, Zach and I taped off an area and filled it in with the remaining green and purple paint. Zachary Pearl was the artist who designed this first stencil for Corcoran Neighborhood. He gracefully agreed to help do this one. It was pretty easy. We spent maybe 2 or 2 1/2 hours including clean-up. It is helpful to have a [...]
